St. Joseph County has an estimated 27,573 SNAP recipients. The average monthly benefit is $195 per person. Sen. Jim Banks, Sen. Todd Young, & Rep. Rudy Yakym voted to cut SNAP by $186 billion this year.The U.S. Department of Agriculture has an emergency contingency fund β passed by Congress β designed to continue SNAP benefits during government shutdowns. The Trump administration is refusing to use those funds.
The St. Joseph County Democratic Party believes no Hoosier should go hungry because MAGA extremists prioritize tax cuts for billionaires over taking care of working-class families.
