Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make or accept a transaction from https://www.smartchange.app (the “Site”). The Site is operated by Level Wins, LLC and its service SmartChange (“SmartChange,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

• “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
• “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site. A visit to a donation page is recorded against a one-time token generated fresh for that page load; we do not set a persistent cross-session tracking cookie.

Additionally, when you make or collect a contribution or attempt to make or collect a contribution through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, physical address, payment information, email address, and phone number, and, where the law requires it for a political contribution, your employer and occupation. We refer to this information as “Transaction Information.” Card numbers are sent directly to our payment processor and never touch our servers; we keep only the last four digits, the card brand, and similar non-sensitive details the processor returns to us. We do not store any of your personal banking information and all banking/payment information is encrypted.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Transaction Information.

We use the Transaction Information that we collect generally to fulfill any contributions placed through the Site (including processing your payment information and providing you with confirmations and receipts). Additionally, we use this Transaction Information to:

• Communicate with you;
• Screen our transactions for potential risk or fraud;
• Help the organization you give to meet its legal recordkeeping and reporting obligations, including contribution limits and itemization; and
• When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above.

• The organization you contribute to receives your contact details, employer and occupation, and giving history so it can issue receipts, follow up with you, and fulfill its reporting and compliance obligations. We never share your payment method with an organization.
• We use Stripe to process payments. You can read more about how Stripe uses your Personal Information at stripe.com/privacy.
• For spare change round-up donors, we use Stripe Financial Connections to link the card or account you choose. SmartChange collects only purchase amounts, dates, and times from that connection, never your online banking credentials.
• We also use service providers for hosting and authentication (Supabase) and email delivery (Postmark), each of which receives only what it needs to perform its function.
• We may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site. You can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information at google.com/policies/privacy, and opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights. We do not buy, sell, or trade your Personal Information.

As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. Every marketing email we send includes a working unsubscribe link.

We retain contribution records for as long as the organization you gave to has a legal obligation to keep them, which for political contributions can extend several years past the contribution date. Account information is retained while your account is active. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete information that isn’t subject to a legal retention requirement at any time by contacting us below.

The Site is not intended for individuals under the age of 18.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
